Course Content

This is an exciting opportunity to study our new, BSc (Hons) Cloud Computing with Cyber Security (Top-Up) Level 6 programme. Designed for those who already hold a Level 5 qualification (HND / FD) allowing them to `Top-Up` their studies and achieve a BSc (Hons) degree specialising in Cloud Computing and Cyber Security.  If you are interested in pursuing a career as an IT professional then this is the course for you!  The modules of our top-up course cover a broad spectrum of topics within cloud computing and cyber security, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue careers in various domains such as cloud computing, development, networking, and cybersecurity.

In addition, our programme covers the content required for a diverse range of industry entry-level certified courses, including Microsoft Cloud, Cloud Management and Development, AWS and security qualifications, including CISSP. The content for these certifications, recognised across the industry, are seamlessly embedded into our curriculum, offering students a robust foundation for their professional development, and facilitating their progression towards higher-level certifications and employment.  Not only will you achieve a BSc (Hons) Degree but you will be prepared to complete these valuable industry certifications.

The course is delivered on our brand-new Ballymena Campus with state-of-the-art computer labs and industry standard resources.

Semester 1

  • Security Management and Consultancy – Take a deep dive into Security Management and the skills required for consultancy. This module will help you develop the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to provide clients and colleagues with information and guidance on information and systems security.
  • Cloud Security – Review and analyse the security features of both Azure and AWS and learn how to implement these successfully to produce secure cloud-based solutions.
  • Individual Research Project – This double credit module allows you to take on an individual project based on Cloud, Security or AI.

Semester 2

  • Serverless Development – Utilising both Azure and AWS this module will provide you with the skills to design and develop serverless solutions.
  • Cloud AI and Machine Learning 
  • Individual Research Project - This double credit module allows you to take on an individual project based on Cloud, Security or AI.

This course is validated by the Open University.   

There are no additional mandatory costs for this course.


Course Aims

This programme is designed to equip students with industry-relevant expertise in Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), preparing them for a successful career in the modern computing industry. With a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, students will gain both foundational and advanced knowledge tailored to meet evolving industry demands. Students will benefit from a curriculum led by experienced faculty, where real-world applications of cloud technologies, security management, serverless development, and AI are integrated into the learning experience. The programme fosters professional growth, enabling students to develop expertise in Security Management and Consultancy, AI, Cloud and Cyber Security, utilizing industry-leading platforms such as AWS and Azure.


The Level 6 BSc (Hons) Cloud Computing with Cyber Security (Top-up) Degree is available to candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • 240 credits from a Level 5 Qualification in a computing-related discipline, with a minimum pass mark of 55% in Level 5 modules. The qualification must include cloud and/or cybersecurity-related modules.  A minimum of 2 years’ industry experience in cloud or cybersecurity may be considered in lieu of specific cloud/cyber modules.
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 (C) or above (or equivalent qualifications such as Level 2 Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy).

Eligibility for Third-Country Nationals (Subject to College Tier 4 License approval):

Candidates from the EU, EEA, Switzerland, and other third countries are eligible to apply if they have the required qualifications, and the right to live and work in the UK.
